Introducing Yasmin

Yasmin, who’s great, great, uncle was Harry Golombek OBE, a former British chess champion, learnt chess at an early age winning the Hampshire Girls under 8, under 9 under 10 and under 14 championships. At 14 years of age, she was the youngest person to represent Jersey in an Olympiad when she was selected to join Jersey’s first all-female team to compete at the 44th Chess Olympiad held in Chennai, India in 2022, where the Team came fourth in their section. The Chess Olympiad is the equivalent to the Olympics.

Yasmin is the current Jersey Girls under 18 Champion and also came second in the current Jersey women’s Championships. She has again been selected to join the women’s team to represent Jersey at the 45th Chess Olympiad to be held in Budapest in September 2024. “What appeals to me the most in chess is probably the strategic side, and how you always have to think ahead of the game and try and understand what your opponent is thinking.”
