Experience

Adam Crane joined Baker & Partners (Cayman) Limited as a Partner in September 2021.

Adam advises insolvency practitioners, court appointed officers, creditors, debtors, financial institutions, directors, officers, investors, shareholders and other stakeholders in insolvency and dispute resolution proceedings.

Adam has been recognised as an INSOL Fellow following the successful completion of the INSOL International Global Insolvency Practice Course 2023/2024.

He acted for the Hong Kong court appointed interim receivers of a multi-billion dollar Cayman Islands domiciled private equity fund, where he advised the interim receivers on all aspects of their appointment including the recognition of their appointment in the Cayman Islands, complex litigation and arbitration proceedings, the recovery of assets and documentation, as well as regulatory, data protection and confidentiality issues.

Adam also acted for the Joint Official Liquidators of several Cayman subsidiaries of Bahraini Awal Bank in complex and cross-border liquidation and commercial litigation proceedings (AHAB v. Saad), which involved the defence of a US $9.2 billion fraud claim against the subsidiaries and other defendants.

Adam acted for the Joint Official Liquidations of two Cayman feeder funds of Platinum Partners Value Arbitrage Group following the collapse of the $1+ billion dollar hedge fund, where he advised on various aspects of the liquidations including investigations and claims in respect of directors, officers and service providers including auditors of the hedge fund.

He has acted for acted for shareholders in various shareholder dispute matters involving winding up petitions on just and equitable grounds and related to the pursuit of alternative relief including the buy-out of their shares.

Adam is actively involved and holds various leadership positions with leading international insolvency organisations including the American Bankruptcy Institute on the International Committee, INSOL on the Small Practice Group Committee, Turnaround Management Association on the NextGen Committee and the Recovery and Insolvency Specialists Association (Cayman) on the Membership & Communication Committee.

In 2020, Adam was inducted to the prestigious International Insolvency Institute’s NextGen Leadership Program aimed at recognising the most prominent “rising stars” in international insolvency. He was later appointed to the Program’s Executive Committee and the International Insolvency Institute’s Regional Committee for USA, Canada and Caribbean as the NextGen Liaison.

He has been recognized by Benchmark Litigation (Latin America) as a Litigation Star in 2021 and 2020, and as a Future Star in 2019; by Benchmark Litigation (Canada) as a Future Star in 2018; and was named to the Benchmark Litigation 40 & Under Hot List (Canada and United States) in 2017 and 2018.

Adam received his Juris Doctor degree with a specialisation in Business Law in 2010 from the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University and is a graduate of the Osgoode Hall Law School Intensive Trial Advocacy Workshop (2015).
