Yurii Tsybulskyi announced as President of ESLA Jersey

Baker & Partners paralegal, Yurii Tsybulskyi is announced as President of the newly established European Law Students’ Association's Jersey group

The European Law Students’ Association (ELSA) has officially set up in Jersey and paralegal Yurii Tsybulskyi from Baker & Partners is its first president having been instrumental to its set-up.

ELSA is an international, independent, non-political, non-profit organisation run by and for legal students and recent graduates. It supports those who are interested in achieving academic and personal excellence in addition to their legal or law-related studies at university.

Yurii has been involved with ELSA for some time as he is also the Director of External Relations for ELSA UK. As part of this role, he recently traveled to Georgia, where he attended an International Council Meeting which brought together ELSA members from across the network’s 43 member European countries to meet new people and share experiences.

Commenting on the establishment of ELSA in Jersey, Yurii commented:

“I am delighted that we now have an ELSA presence on the island and am honoured to be doing my part to drive that forward. ELSA aims to provide its members with a platform to develop new and existing skills, whilst also interacting with fellow students and experienced practitioners from different states and legal systems around Europe. Having ELSA in Jersey will provide more legal students with a vast network and education resources to enable them to become the next leaders in the industry.”

Originally from the Ukraine, Yurii was able to move to the UK via the Homes for Ukraine scheme set up by the UK Government. The scheme gives Ukrainians the right to live and work in the UK for a period of up to three years. Since being at Baker & Partners he has pursued LLB studies at the Institute of Law in Jersey and gained valuable work experience on complex and international civil and commercial dispute matters under the guidance of the Firm’s Partners.

Speaking about Yurii’s new role, Stephen Baker, Senior Partner of Baker & Partners added:

“Yurii has been a valuable member of the Baker & Partners team since he joined us in 2022. His work and commitment to establishing this association should be applauded and we are exceptionally proud of what he has achieved during his short time on the island. At Baker & Partners we will continue to support him with this endeavour and remain committed to supporting students who are looking to embark on a career in law.”
