Baker and Partners announce that Tara Liao and Arthur Preget have been admitted to the Bar of the British Virgin Islands.
These BVI admissions further strengthen the firm’s capability and commitment to the British Virgin Islands, and our ability to provide BVI legal advice across both UK and BVI time zones.
Counsel Tara Liao and Associate Arthur will continue to work from the Baker & Partners London office providing advice on international disputes and arbitration alongside our on-the-ground team in Tortola, in the British Virgin Islands, and our BVI qualified team members in Jersey, London and the Cayman Islands.
Tara Liao is a barrister dual qualified in the UK and in Hong Kong (where she continues to maintain an active practice alongside work in the BVI), with experience in providing legal opinions in PRC legal proceedings. She is ranked as a leading junior in the Commercial Disputes category by Legal 500 Asia-Pacific from 2021 to 2024. She sat as a Deputy District Judge in Hong Kong in 2021 and 2023. She is on the HKIAC List of Arbitrators (July 2023-December 2026) and sits as arbitrator from time to time. She is a native speaker of Mandarin and Cantonese.
Arthur is regularly involved in large-scale commercial matters with an offshore asset recovery, fraud and insolvency requirement, supporting our international team. Arthur is bilingual in English and French. He obtained a Double Degree in English and French Law awarded by the European School of Law, before qualifying as an English solicitor. He is currently studying a Masters in French Business law and is expected to be admitted to the Paris Bar in 2025.
